We're Sinking - Dev Diary #5

In-Person Playtesting!

After a year of playtesting in a virtual space, it was such a nice change of pace to interact with people face to face and play games in public again! This past weekend was a doozy! All month I've been prepping We're Sinking's physical prototype just for this weekend.

As I'm sure most of you were aware #GenCon2021 was this weekend. I'm still too early in development to even consider showing up at the biggest game convention in the country. But on Saturday, I did get the opportunity to demo We're Sinking at a local game store, Labyrinth Games & Puzzles. They hosted a Pop-up GenCon event, that showcased some of the newest games coming this year. As well as a place to demo and playest up and coming games/expansions. I got to playtest We're Sinking alongside some amazing and inspiring designers in the board game industry including, Elizabeth Hargrave, (Wingspan, Mariposas), Matthew Hocker, (Composition, BitterSweet), Dominic Crapuchettes, (Oceans, Evolution), Eric Slauson, (MonDRAWsity, Tattoo Stories), David Smith, (10 Gallon Tank), and Angelo Leotta, (Katootsie). I wish I could have spent time at each table playing their new games.

Then on Sunday, I Co-hosted a Break My Game playtesting event with Matthew Hocker, of Coo' Games, at a local board game cafe. We had a great turnout of designers and playtesters and I was able to get two more playtests of We're Sinking in.

Overall it was an amazing weekend of playing games and meeting awesome people. I got loads of positive reactions and feedback on the game, and I can't wait to incorporate some new elements and ideas into the game over the next few months!

Here's a teaser for what's to come!

Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Cheers,

-JF
